A 13,500btu air conditioner needs approx. 2800-3000w to start with a continuous running wattage of 1500-2000w. A 15,000 btu air conditioner needs approx. 3300-3500w to start, with a continuous running wattage of 2000-2500W. Check the power requirements of your air conditioner before making a choice of generator

Or you could run the freezer, cook with a 650 watt microwave (using 1000 watts) and a few lights. A 2000 watt generator won't be able to power a hot water heater.

Continuous running power is usually 80% of that maximum output, so 4000w (0.8 power factor) has a continuous 3200w running.

For example, a refrigerator requires 2200 starting wattage with a 700 running wattage, so you would need a generator with at least 2200 watt maximum output.
