Spring is here, so it’s the ideal time to prepare your lawn for summer! Check out our top five tips to get the best lawn on the block.
#1 Aerate your lawn
After winter, high-traffic areas would have compacted. Aerating your lawn creates small holes to ensure water, sunlight, and nutrients can reach the roots. Our petrol-powered and manual aerators will help promote a healthy deep root system to withstand the hot Australian summer. Not only will you have the lushest grass around, but aeration also equips your lawn to fight unwanted weeds better.
#2 Apply a fertiliser
Regularly fertilising your lawn is necessary to encourage new growth and strong roots. It’s a great idea to fertilise your lawn right after aerating. Doing this means the fertiliser will get right down to the roots! Fertilising your lawn is one of the key factors in having a thick, healthy, thriving lawn all your neighbours will be jealous of.
#3 Remove weeds
Removing weeds, especially bindis, is an essential step in lawn care, so they don’t take root over the summer. Hand removal will help to control small outbreaks. Herbicide is another excellent way to keep those pesky weeds under control, but ensure you have fed the lawn with fertiliser in the past 6 to 8 weeks before applying any weed killers.
#4 Remove thatch
If you have a build-up and your lawn is ‘spongy’, it’s probably time to hire a dethatcher. Thatch can cause shallow root growth, root suffocation and rot! Make removing thatch efficient and use our Bluebird dethatcher. Our dethatcher uses flail or fixed knife blades that strip the thatch, which is then raked up. This then promotes healthy regrowth and improved water absorption.
#5 Repair bare patches
The final step in getting that envy-stirring grass is transplanting runners or sowing seeds. Spreading seeds over your existing lawn produces the thick, lush, green lawn you have always dreamed of!
